Canine GenoScan
Advantages of genotyping your dog
Genotyping is a powerful tool for understanding the genetic diversity and health of animals. By analysing an animal's DNA, we can identify genetic variants that may affect its health and well-being. This information can be invaluable for breeders, breeding organizations and veterinarians, as it can help to identify potential health issues early on and allow for early intervention.
Genotyping can also help to improve the overall health and well-being of animal populations by allowing us to identify and select for genetically diverse and healthy individuals. This can help to reduce the prevalence of inherited diseases and increase the overall genetic diversity of a population, which can make it more resilient to environmental challenges.
In short, genotyping is an important tool for understanding the genetic diversity and health of animals. By providing valuable information about an animal's DNA, it can help to improve the health and well-being of individual animals and populations.
To ensure comprehensive monitoring of both genetic diversity and an understanding of disease predispositions, we offer Canine GenoScan, a comprehensive solution utilizing a state-of-the-art high-density genotyping platform. This platform offers a comprehensive approach to evaluating genetic information, providing valuable insights into both the genetic makeup of individual dogs as well as the potential risks they may face in terms of disease and disorders. By providing this all-in-one solution, we aim to support breeders and pet owners in making informed decisions and maximizing the health and well-being of their dogs.
We provide genetic tests for 141 diseases and disorders and 49 color, coat and other traits. Download the full list below (pdf).
As an optional, discounted add-on we provide evaluation of genomic diversity on a level of both single dogs and entire populations, based on c.a. 60,000 single nucleotide polymorphism markers. The diversity report for each dog consist of
- Overall position in the population via principal component analysis
- Genomic inbreeding coefficient
- Heterozygosity levels
The evaluation of genetic diversity is also available as a separate service.
